Polanski was ready to cut a deal with the authorities and plead guilty to minor charges in exchange for probation and the court decided to jail him anyway. That’s why he fled. If he didn’t question his behavior then, I suppose he questions it now if a little powwow was really worth being banned from Hollywood forever.

I never said it was OKAY for a grown man to have sex with a minor, but I was comparing it to the gravity of the sin of knowingly lying to the public and to the United Nations Security Committee to start a war under a false pretense that there was WMD in Iraq.

But what do you think about Polanski’s apparent nonchalance/disregard for his exploitative behavior? The problem was that he could not have even questioned if it was not acceptable to mix his business with his very personal interest in the extreme manner, let alone that he should not have sex with minors. It was his common tactics when he made his movies; Nastasja Kinski would never have been in the business with such fanfare had it not for the relationship she had with Polansiki when she was still a lower teenager. Her admission of the irony was famous.

I do not think it is OK for a man with such power to have anal intercourse with a minor, put under the influence of drugs, and obscuring his way out with more and more outlandish behavior without any examination. But the horror is that it was only a tip of the huge iceberg underneath of his murky persona and his film production. I personally believe that it is very worthwhile to restore a region in the world where boycotts a man with a problem no matter how long ago it was. To achieve it with consistency, though, we have to get rid of Woody the father who married his quasi daughter.
