I found your site when I was checking Google results of Minae Mizumura's new book. I have a different impression about her '私小説‘I am married to a Caucasian but not a WASP. Minae sounded like a very proud person. She might have been hurt by the fact that she can not be a part of WASP. Though there is a sort of re-emergence of class system in Japan, that is nothing compared to the one in U.S... Back to her new book. The first half of her new book sounds great and the second half sounds silly. At the same time, I have a suspicion. I think she knows what she is doing. She is cynical as hell. A proud person sometimes has trouble recovering from her old scar... I am a very practical survivor. I call myself a cultural refugee from Japan. Anyway, I live in Baltimore, yes, Baltimore, famous with John Waters and Homicide...One of my favorite hobbies is reading. Like you, I read both in Japanese and English. However, I don't read that many 'literature' like you. (Though, I really loved Jane Austin and read all of her novels. What do you think of her novels? I read all 4 twilights, all 7 Harry Potter, and first 7 volume of Anne Rice series. ) After all, my background is math and I am working as a financial adviser lately. I came to U.S. 1984. I was already way over 20 then. That’s why my English is not as natural as yours though I am very used to write in English. I do think both English and in Japanese. I recall I developed this tendency when I was in graduate school. It was a pleasure speaking to you. Hopefully, I will write more in future.
